    A Wedding Worth Remembering

African Weddings Deserve a Catering Team That Understands the Culture

Planning an African wedding in London is a deeply personal undertaking. There are family expectations, cultural traditions, and a guest list that often spans generations and continents. At Mijays Bar we cater for that reality every weekend, and our team understands that the food and drinks served on the day carry as much meaning as the ceremony itself.

We work with couples planning Nigerian, Ghanaian, Sierra Leonean, Cameroonian, Congolese and pan-African weddings across Greater London. From intimate engagement gatherings in Croydon to thousand-guest receptions in Canary Wharf hotels, every brief is treated with the same care and the same commitment to making your wedding feel unmistakably yours.

Our approach blends premium hospitality standards with genuine cultural fluency. That means jollof rice that tastes like it should, palm wine served properly, mocktails that respect non-drinking guests, and a service team that knows when to step forward and when to let the family lead the moment.

    What's Included

What Our African Wedding Catering Package Includes

Every wedding is bespoke. The list below is what most couples include, but we can build a fully custom package around your venue, guest count and traditions.

    Bespoke Cultural Menu

We design your menu around your heritage, guest profile and the dishes that matter most to your families. Traditional, modern, or both.

    Traditional Drinks & Palm Wine

Authentic palm wine, zobo, chapman, kunu and other regional drinks served the way they were always meant to be served.

    Luxury Mocktail Bar

A signature, alcohol-free mocktail menu for the elders, mothers, and guests who do not drink. Styled to match your wedding theme.

    Canapé & Small Plate Catering

Elegant cocktail-hour catering for guest arrival, often blending West African flavours with European presentation.

    Premium Bar Styling

Gold, white and emerald palettes, fresh florals, branded signage and glassware that fits the polish of a luxury wedding.

    Trained Hospitality Team

A professional team of chefs, bartenders and servers who understand both formal service and the warmth of a family celebration.

    Setup, Service & Breakdown

We arrive early, set everything cleanly, run the service end-to-end and leave the venue exactly as we found it.

    Event Coordination Support

A dedicated point of contact from your first enquiry through to the moment your last guest leaves.

    Dietary Accommodation

Halal, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and allergen-aware menus catered to without compromise on flavour.

    The Mijays Difference

Built for the London Wedding Scene Without Losing the Culture

London is one of the most demanding wedding markets in the world. Venues come with tight load-in windows, lift-only access, alcohol licensing rules, late-night curfews, and brides who have spent months refining a vision board. Add a 300 to 800 guest African wedding to that environment and you need a catering partner who plans seriously.

We have delivered weddings in Mayfair hotels, riverside venues in Greenwich, marquees in Essex, banquet halls in Croydon, and private estates across Kent. Every booking starts with a conversation about your story, your venue, and the moments that matter most. From there our team builds a service plan that respects the venue's rules and the family's traditions equally.

Cultural fluency matters here. Our team will not get confused when the MC calls for the bridal procession, the spraying starts, or the elders begin pouring libations. We know when to top up glasses quietly and when to step out of frame. That kind of attention to detail is what couples remember six months later.

What couples consistently tell us made the difference

    • A menu that tasted like the food their parents would cook, only refined
    • Mocktails so good that the non-drinkers were the talk of the reception
    • A drinks display that became the most photographed corner of the wedding
    • Staff who knew the order of service without being told twice
    • A team that handled last-minute guest count changes without panic

    Common Questions

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do you cater for both traditional and white weddings?

Yes. Most of our couples book both. We will design distinct menus and drinks for each part of your celebration so the traditional engagement feels different from the white wedding, even when the same team is running service.

Can you cater for very large African weddings?

We regularly cater for weddings between 100 and 800 guests across London. For larger weddings we scale the chef brigade, bar team and service staff accordingly, and your dedicated coordinator will plan the kitchen, service flow and run sheet around your venue.

Do you offer halal African catering?

Yes. We work with halal-certified suppliers and can prepare your entire menu halal on request, or run a fully halal section alongside a non-halal section depending on your guest list.

Can you serve palm wine and traditional African drinks?

Absolutely. Authentic palm wine, zobo, chapman, kunu and regional spirits are available as part of our traditional drinks bar hire and are commonly served at the engagement portion of African weddings.

How far in advance should we book an African wedding caterer in London?

For peak season (April to October) we recommend booking nine to twelve months in advance. Off-peak dates and smaller engagement ceremonies can sometimes be booked within twelve weeks subject to availability.

Do you provide service staff or just food and drinks?

Both. Every package includes a trained hospitality team of chefs, bartenders and servers. We do not subcontract service staff, so the people who plan your wedding are the people running the floor on the day.

What deposit is required to secure our wedding date?

A booking deposit is required to hold your date in the calendar, with the balance staged across agreed milestones leading up to the wedding. Your contract will outline this clearly with no hidden fees.
